Today I had the opportunity to visit Fujisawa and Odawara for work. At Fujisawa there was a bit of a typhoon swell rolling in and quite a few surfers out. Mt. Fuji was visible too and I got this shot of a surfer with Fuji just visible in the background which I’m quite pleased with. On a clear day with the right lens it looks much closer of course.
Here’s Enoshima island, a very popular tourist destination. The lighthouse on the island is illuminated with strings of lights in the evenings and makes for a romantic date spot.
Enoshima marina will be the site of yacht racing in the 2020 Olympics. Not the marina visible here of course, this is just a little fisherman’s harbour. The yacht marina is way over to the left behind the bridge. A few sailboat masts are visible.
Found this cool VW coffee bus. Nothing says Shonan Beach area like surfboards, a VW bus, and a good iced coffee. Nice.
After Fujisawa I had a meeting in Odawara and visited Odawara Castle for the first time. The castle has beautiful grounds and is definitely worth a visit. I was surprised to learn the deep history of the area, or rather surprised that I was remiss in not already knowing it. An area I’ll definitely have to study up on!
